fairytales, vacations and writing time
Just returned from a Fall Fairytale getaway to Stowe, Vermont. It was nothing but gorgeous fall colors, hikes up the mountain and through forests, bike rides in golden trees, handstands in the leaves, baby goats and so much cheese. It really doesn't get much better than that (to me)!
At a point towards the end of our trip, I totally caught myself getting pre-stressed for coming back to work and emails and unfinished Protectress re-writes. It's a bummer to let yourself get sad about something ending before it even ends. When obviously you should be living in the present and frolicking in piles of leaves. BUT when your Happily Ever After includes work and not hunks of local cheese by the firelight, then it's rather...challenging...to not wanna stay in the fairytale a while longer.
Forever, preferably.
So, as I'm trying to organize my work and writing schedule for the coming weeks, I'm gonna try to focus a little less on getting things done. On checking off word counts and new scenes and deletes. And, instead, try to focus on the process, not the final goal. Enjoying whatever unfolds along the way.
Maybe there'll still be a happily ever after ending (though not for Luna, sorry!), or maybe something different. But, I'm hopeful that focusing on the process day by day might allow some new creative writing and ideas to happen completely off-schedule and in the moment.
And, if not, the checklists await!
