how to procrastinate procrastination

We've all been there.

Staring at a blank screen.

Or even a screen filled with words.

When, suddenly, you decide you really need to look at buy new yoga pants or clean your keyboard or do literally anything else except write.

Procrastination knows no limits.

I'm doing it right now. With this blog.

So, since we all know it's unavoidable, here are some things I try when the desire to procrastinate writing sets in:

  • Lean into it, but set a timer and give myself that allotted time to mindlessly waste time until the timer goes off. Then it's focus time.

  • Read. Same deal here, not letting it be for an indefinite period. Even when I'm reading Six of Crows for the first time FINALLY and it's super hard to stop.

  • Reverse! Set a timer for writing X amount of pages. It creates enough urgency to get me writing quickly, which usually helps me settle into some sort of flow.

Lesson? Timers work!

What tips do you do to procrastinate procrastinating when you're writing?!
