queries and revisions

Well, after just under two years of working on The Protectress, I finally sent my first batch of queries out! It's strange but exciting. Because, I also planned to delve back into Night Soiree once those queries were sent.

Now that they are, I've started reading my first draft of Night Soiree and begun taking notes. Considering what a DREADFUL experience reading the first Protectress draft was, this is better. The outline is nice to reference, and I feel SLIGHTLY more organized in taking notes on how I need to approach the second draft.

In quick observations, I've noticed my paragraph endings are stronger and the beginning of the book is more engaging than the Protectress was in this same stage. I'm also writing one-two sentence recaps of each chapter as I finish it, which I think will help when it comes time to cut the excess. There is a lot of excess that I'm not ready to part with yet.

Hoping to be done with a second draft by June!

Also, since apparently I love working on two projects at once, I'm drafting ideas for a short MG novel, too. Right now, debating between a young boy moonlighting as a pirate and a murder mystery after a funeral.

Hope April has been a good writing month for you!
