scheduling writing time
Schedules keep us in diligent pursuit of our goals (not aimlessly wandering through open fields). Of course, schedules can also make life feel like Groundhog Day. So, where's the space between the two, that happy middle ground where you're joyously wandering through an open field in pursuit of your goals?
For me, it's finding the joy, creativity and freedom in the action. Following a workout routine that's nothing but the same movements six days a week can feel stale. Just as going through the motions of a workout without finding joy in the movement (YAY, I can squat, I feel strong, woo burpees, and so on) doesn't feel so good, either. You should definitely work one thing into a workout that you like because it's fun. Hop like a frog, clap your feet, dance upside down (yes, my joyous movement is almost always a handstand). That extra dose of joy brings you fully to the present to get the most out of your workout.
Here we go, back to writing! While daily pages can often feel repetitive, or at times, challenging and dull, adding a sprinkle of something fun just for you can help you feel more present and joyful in your dutiful writing. Wanna go over the top in describing the woods just because you can? Go for it. It may not survive a few drafts of editing. But who cares. Smile at your own wordsmith prowess. Then, get back to your goal.
