short stories in a series
Have you ever started doing something that you didn't understand until you started and now you do it all the time?
I'll go first. Handstands in the wild, wherever I travel. It's just a thing I do that I fully embrace and enjoy.
Kinda like Beatrix Bobbit.
I wrote her first story for a contest entry, not really envisioning her story continuing on. Over the summer, I felt a spark to revisit the story five-years earlier when Beatrix was only twelve. With two new stories a month, I now have nine stories featuring the Bobbits and their witch nonsense.
Since a new Beatrix Bobbit story is coming out Thursday with a surprise birthday for Sybil, I was reflecting on how this one short story became a series and what to do with it as I keep adding to the collection.
These individual short stories are super different from chapters in a the Protectress. While they feature the same characters and some of the same themes, each story can stand alone with its own theme and micro-plot. Which does seem pretty fun.
I think you can also read the stories in order and watch the characters and plot lines evolve, to some extent (Mr. Bobbit and his love for Penny), but it's not necessary for enjoyment in the same way it would be in a book (though more Bobbit antics are always a good idea).
I still haven't decided what to do with them all, other than release them into the void here and hope someone enjoys them, but I'd love to read similar collections to see how this can grow and how other people have done it. If you have suggestions, leave them in the comments!
In the meantime, I'll be loving each jaunt into Beatrix Bobbit's world as a break from more complex novel writing (made Major Changes to the final Luna scene on Friday AHHH!).
Check back on Thursday morning for the newest Beatrix Bobbit adventure, featuring the ever cheerful dancing star, Sybil!
