the next draft
I'm not sure what I ever expect to happen when I finish a first draft.
A parade of peacocks or alpacas? Yes. Yes that's what I expect.
Well, I didn't get any of that when I finished the VERY VERY LONG first draft of The Eternal Night Soiree. The ending may be a bit rushed, but I got there (then waited on those peacocks and/or alpacas) and when they didn't arrive, I giddily changed the status on my outline to DRAFT ONE COMPLETE. With a note to begin working on Draft TWO when I get back from vacation.
So, even if an animal parade didn't happen, I'm super excited to go celebrate beginning to query The Protectress, and finishing the first draft of Night Soiree. These two stories couldn't be more different, but they've got a lot of heart and quirks and colorful characters.
While the idea for The Protectress, really came from the character of Luna, Night Soiree was born from reminiscing about how GOOD Ella Enchanted was, and wondering if there was a way it could be reimagined into something more adult.
Cue a powerful lovesick warlock who curses a town in an eternal night Soiree in order to complete a dangerous spell to bring back his lost love. Plenty of adventure, an ensemble of fun characters and voila.
With that, I'm off to spend a week in nature, excited to come back and move onto DRAFT TWO.
WOO HOO!
Any loose reimagining of beloved childhood books you're working on?! I'd love to hear.
